Hi. I'm Yamel Ramirez, living in Orlando, Florida. Photography captivated me since I first began perusing magazines and books. But it wasn't until three years ago that I bought my first digital camera (Canon S40) and began experimenting. My love and knowledge of photography is growing more by the day, but I have lots to learn. My personal goal is merely to become an adequate and knowledgeable photographer.
I enjoy photographing every-day things, and occupy myself practicing on one style of shooting before moving to another. I find it difficult to photograph architecture and ordinary subjects (such as a door knob), but by far, the most difficult subject for me to photograph is people. My goal is to arrive at that well-rounded level.
In honor of my new-found hobby, this site was created on June 10, 2004, with the original intent to post one picture a day. However, I came to the realization that I enjoy photography on a spontaneous level. Therefore, instead of the picture-a-day format, I now post at least once a week and sometimes every two or three days, but I found that I enjoy this relaxed routine instead of stressfully posting every day.
For the title, I came up with the name "spectrum", because that is what our eyes see - a spectrum of light. So, I try to keep the pictures as big as possible for better detail, and your experience should be more enjoyable viewing this site in full-screen mode (Hit F11 on most browsers). The photographs are usually cropped and adjusted for contrast and color using Paint Shop Pro 7 and/or Adobe Elements 2. There are shots as well, where the picture is completely untouched. However, I believe that sometimes adjusting the shot to bring out more emotion, depth, etc., is warranted. Anything that can be done in a dark room is fair game in my opinion.
Ninety-nine percent (and decreasing) of the photographs on this site are taken with my Canon S40 (except for one or two taken with my sister's Canon G5). I hope to upgrade to a dSLR within the next year I have finally upgraded to a Canon 20D! Meanwhile, I feel if my photographs are emotional and full of character using an old S40, then my technique is truly improving I can't wait to see how much I can do with it. I gladly welcome feedback, positive or constructive, and if you wish, you may e-mail me at yamram .at. earthlink .dot. net. Lastly, feel free to visit my profile on photoblogs.org here. Thanks!
